MEDIA RELEASE: Victorian “adoption equality” law will hurt kids. But who cares.

adoption - lonely kid“Victoria’s Upper House, by 31 to 8, has granted the demands of a noisy minority, the 1% of Australian couples who are same-sex (ABS 2013), instead of defending the primal right and need of children to have a relationship with both mother and father”, said Dr van Gend, president of the Australian Marriage Forum.

“Once again a government has brought in a policy that will hurt children.

“The same Victorian politicians who tell us how sorry they are about past policies that separated mother and baby – such as the forced adoption policy of the 1950s to 1970s – have now voted for another policy that will separate mother and baby: a policy allowing adoption by two homosexual men.

“Are Victorian MPs not aware that there is no research anywhere in the world that properly studies the consequences to children of being raised by two homosexual men? And yet these politicians are prepared to pass laws that subject adopted children to such a situation – to an unsupervised experiment on their emotional development.

“Have they not read the largest, most recent study of same-sex parenting (Sullins, 2015) which found a four-fold increase in serious emotional problems for kids raised in same-sex (mainly lesbian) households?

“How can any responsible lawmaker send children into a same-sex household when the consequences are likely to be harmful and when there are thousands of man-woman couples longing to adopt a child?”

A CONSISTENT CHILD-CENTRED POLICY ON MARRIAGE & PARENTING

“All government policy, State and Federal, must put the interests and rights of the child first – not the interests of homosexual adults.

“That means no law should be passed, or allowed to stand, that deliberately deprives a child of their relationship with a mother or father.

“That rules out adoption and surrogacy for single people, or for same-sex couples. Above all it rules out a federal law for same-sex ‘marriage’, which would overrule the remaining State prohibitions against same-sex adoption and surrogacy. Such a law would be a nationwide, permanent violation of a child’s birth-right to have, where possible, both a mother and father in her life.

“Same-sex marriage, same-sex adoption and same-sex surrogacy are a package deal, and the Australian Marriage Forum opposes them all, for the sake of the child’s right to know the love of both mother and father”, Dr van Gend concluded.
