Media Release: Coalition stays faithful on Marriage

Tony Abbott"Tonight, the federal Coalition resoundingly rejected the cop-out of a 'conscience vote' on marriage", said Dr David van Gend, President of the Australian Marriage Forum.

"No responsible party can be a policy-free zone on the foundational institution of society. That is why both major parties have a policy.

"Labor has a policy to abolish the meaning of marriage, and so abolish a mother or a father from the life of future children. The Coalition has a policy to respect the meaning of marriage as a man-woman thing, so a child has both a mum and a dad.

"This decision is a win for responsible government, but above all a win for future children who are now more likely to benefit from the only institution that guarantees them a mother and a father.

"The Australian Marriage Forum sincerely thanks the federal Government for holding true to their policy, honouring the truth of marriage and defending the rights of the child", Dr van Gend concluded.
